A GIRL!

We found out today that we are expecting a little girl to join our family. Madeleine is so happy! She couldn't stop talking about all she could share/give her little sister. I had an ultrasound yesterday and the tech wouldn't give an inch about what the gender was. However, after the first 5 seconds she said she knew...so I thought a boy. And at the end she said she was looking at the gender and it looked like a boy. Eric's aunt (Eric could not come as he was in Calgary) agreed. So I was trying to adjust to the idea as I had been hoping that Madeleine could have a sister. So today when the nurse at the medical office called and said a girl Madeleine and I flipped out; yelling, jumping. We are really excited. Everything looks great and I seem to be measuring right on for August 13th.

Late Night projects with Amy

Last year my friend Amy convinced me of the wonderful world of sewing. I purchased a lot of fabric and after a few nights of cutting for my quilt the fabric went in a drawer for many months. Mainly because I have felt unmotivated and incompetent without Amy's help. So much pressure on her to hold my hand through the whole thing. Well, both of our husbands are in Calgary so the past two weeks Amy has been over in the evenings with her sewing machine (I do not have one) and we have been working....long and hard. I have made so much progress on my quilt and feel like I am getting into a groove and more excited about getting it done. So, what is the project above? Well, Amy made these diaper/wipe holders and I thought ok I need to try something quicker like that so that I can see a finished project and feel rewarded for my efforts. Yesterday was my marathon day. I bought the fabric, washed it, ironed it, cut it and sewed it all together...and in the middle of all that I took care of three kids, carpooled, and had a church meeting in my home. I finished my productive day at 12:30am. This, as most of you know, is about the latest I have stayed up in a decade. This morning I was feeling it after a rough night of Justin in and out of my room several times with a tummy ache. My headache in the morning and overall fatigue helped to remind me of the reality of such a day as yesterday. Though I am so proud of these cute diaper/wipe containers. I love the fabric.
This is Amy working on her nursing cover...that will be my next project (with her guidance and help of course). It has been amazing to see how much more comfortable I feel with sewing. I am excited.

Visit from Grandpa Baker

Never a dull moment with Grandpa to tackle and play with! Grandpa braved the cold weather to take the kids on walks to the park and store. He even managed to get all of my carpooling down, I didn't make it easy on him, and he was amazing. Justin was able to have Grandpa come to his preschool for snack day and couldn't wait for that day. I was able to volunteer in Madeleine's class which is something I wish I could do more often. It was so nice to do things that I normally can't do without help. We sure wish family lived closer!!!

When Grandpa came to visit us he had his hands full the whole time. We hope he is still willing to come for future visits =) A day after he arrived Eric and I took off to Banff where he was attending a medical conference. I was able to sleep in, yeah!!!! Read some new books, think, exercise and just enjoy. We knew the kids were in great hands and so didn't worry about a thing. Thanks so much Ted for this break!
Madeleine and Justin roped Grandpa into numerous games of memory, the likes of which you have never seen. I had no idea you could actually play with so many cards all at once. Below Justin and Austin and Grandpa built a fort and played inside.
